WHAT IS A SPIDER: Before reading the top 10 tips, you must understand what an internet "spider" is...when you obtimize your website and eventually submit it to e.g. Google, they will send a "spider" to crawl through your website and document its contents. This information is then added to Google's database for users to search.
Here are our top 10 tips for SEO ...
1. Accessibility - It is vital your website is accessible, and by that we mean that pages are linked together and pages you want spiders to document are not password protected etc (web spiders will not be able to document any sections of your site if they are password protected).
2. Meta tags - These are used in html page headers, and contain information about keywords and descriptions of the web page. This provides search engines with the information they require, enabling your site to be catalogued efficiently. In simple terms, meta tags hold the title of the website, the author and some keywords that relate to your website. Meta tags are vital in increasing the quality of your website submission. THEY ARE A MUST!

3. More keywords - Keywords are essential as they describe your site with single words and so each word has to be relevant to your site. Since millions of sites will be using the same keyword, it is imperative you try to pick out the best ones. Using our keyword suggestion tool, you will be shown alternatives to the intputted keyword.

4. Robot text file - There may be sections of your website you do not want a spider to document and so a Robo text file is used to give instructions to the spider of what to document and what not to document. This helps the spider efficiently document your website without wasting time on sections that are no use to helping your website get more notice on search engines.
HERE is a simple way of creating a Robot Text File.
5. Spreading the word - Getting your website linked from many other websites will help boost it's ratings as search engine crawlers will believe your site has quality content that people want to link too! Alternative ways of doing this for free is by putting your link as your signature on forums or doing link swaps with other websites.
6. Multiple domains - If you have several topics that could each support their own website, it might be worth having multiple domains. Why? First, search engines usually list only one page per domain for any given search, and you might warrant two. Second, directories usually accept only home pages, so you can get more directory listings this way.
7. Your content - As far as fresh/regularly updated content goes, Google loves it! They have a fairly new spider that they call the freshbot that crawls the web daily looking for new/updated pages and sites. It will then list the page at the top of their index for that sites keywords. It will stay there for a few days, if the page was just an updated version of what is already in the results it will revert back to the old version and drop back to it's old position, if the page is brand new then it will drop completely from the index, until the next full update when it should take a permanent place in the results.
Google are doing this to keep their index topped up with the freshest pages and sites, instead of old information. If you keep you're site updated daily you should be able to keep the site close to the top of the search results.
8. Submitting to the worthwhile search engines - Don't waste your time on sites that offer "submission to 1000" search engines etc. There are 10 major search engines/directories that make up 90% of the search engine market and these are the ones you want to target. These are Yahoo, Open Directory, About/Sprinks, AOL, Looksmart, MSN, Google, Excite, AltaVista, Direct Hit, All The Web, HotBot, Lycos, ASK Jeeves and Inktomi Index.
9. Submission - Once your site has been correctly edited for SEO, it is time to submit it to the search engines. The search engines recommended in point 8 offer a free submission service to their databases, however there are some companies that offer to do this using automated software that may make the task easier but you will have to pay a fee for the service/software.

10. Submitting regularly - Submitting your site to the search engines once is simply not enough, you must do it regularly (without spamming them or they will ban you). This is to ensure your site is indexed by spiders repeatedly and the search engine databases document your fresh content.
